Oh, and I also co-host these programs along with James Murphy (no relation) from the UK and Big Daddy Donald Roberts Murphy.
So, listen to my thoughts here, or click on the website and enjoy the whole podcast.

This week, on the podcast heard at www.donspodradio.com or donspodradio.podomatic.com we are featuring two shows titled THE BRITISH INVASION. My Retrospective Commentary this week starts the process rolling, with thoughts about the 60's and the influence the music from across the pond, had on me, then and now.
Also, I join Big Daddy Donald Roberts and share in the hosting duties for these programs, so there is a double incentive to listen.
Welcome also to James Murphy (no relation) who assists us from his studios in the south of England at Weymouth.

This week, a look back in football history, to an owner and a football team that became one of the most successful franchises in football history. Harry Wismer was the owner of a team that seemed to always be one step ahead of the creditors, and never seemed to be able to draw much in the way of crowds - his attendance was often measured in empty seats.
But, from humble beginnings and from what seemed to be certain failure, came a franchise that was became of the most successful with full houses watching great and winning football.
Listen for the whole story.
Thanks for supporting us on www.donspodradio.com where I do my Retrospective commentary on the 20s and here as well.

This week marks yet another anniversary of the Allied Forces' attack on Germany in June, 1944 - the attack on the beaches of Normandy that changed the course of the second world war.
With all stories of war, there are those that are unusual and in some cases, almost unbelievable, with detentions happening to those who in any way, real or imagined, were considered to be hampering the Allied War effort, or worse yet, aiding the enemy.
This is one such story, and I hope you find it as intriguing as did I.

This week, another tale of the unusual! Many years ago, a very wealthy lady made a request of a sea captain, to search the world over and bring back that which he deemed to be an item of great value.
The captain did just that, but the reception and ultimate conclusion to the tale takes a strange twist.

OK Gang, here is a story that involves rock and roll radio, the ocean, government and pirates.
In the 1960's Pirate Radio Stations floated just outside the three mile limits of the British Isles. Needless to say, these unlicensed stations were of concern to the government, who, through the BBC, controlled all broadcasting in England.

As I say on this edition of Retrospective, I had so much fun with this subject some weeks ago that I thought it might be fitting to have another go at it. Over the past years, there have been some predictions that, at the time, seemed logical and indeed correct, but were proven to be so far wrong as to be laughable.
It wasn't that long ago that the founder of Microsoft, Bill Gates, suggested that 640 megabites would be all the memory any computer user could possibly need. Oh Ya??
There are many other examples of these kinds of predictions, all here on this edition of Retrospective.

This week, being so close to REMEMBRANCE DAY it is only fitting to remember - both in words and in song - those days when the world went to war!
This two part Retrospective starts with a look at Vera Lynn, the songstress that charmed the troops here and abroad and then finishes with a salute to the man who gave us FLANDERS FIELDS, Colonel John McCrae.
I hope you enjoy this Retrospective look back, and will take two minutes on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month to pause and remember those to whom we owe so much - the fallen troops who many years ago, on battle fields now long forgotten, were responsible for the freedom and prosperity we enjoy today.
Without the sacrifice of so many, our world could have evolved into something very different.

This week flights of fancy with a look at Man's First Machine Powered Flight. A look back to the time of Orville and Wilbur - and others who first got off the ground with the aid of some sort of mechanical power.
Enjoy this commentary, and please, if there is something you would like to hear on this segment of the show, shoot me an email at the station - dpr.ckw@gmail.com
Until next week.

Every week I take a look at a subject that interests me, and I hope, you as well. This week is no exception, as I turn to the wide world of sports and take a Retrospective look back at that great international game - SOCCER.
Do you know where and when Soccer originated? Well, most people do not, so by listening to this commentary, you should be able to fill that knowledge gap. Do you know why soccer games have a "half time?" Well, listen and learn....
Retrospective is heard on the weekly podcast at www.donspodradio.com on the 20's and here in it's entirety.
You should get a kick out of this week's commentary...
Until we chat again..

This is a very special week for us at DonsPodRadio www.donspodradio.com in that it is our 104th podcast - that is 2 years of weekly podcasts for those who are counting. Oh, and that does not include the special podcasts outside the regular rotation - the Summer Sounds Specials and the Christmas Music Specials.
I was excited to be a part of this podcast and co-host the program this week with my friend and podcast partner, Big Daddy Donald Roberts. What better time to pay tribute to the big guy, than on this special program, so the Retrospective commentary is all about Don.....
If you have not had a chance to listen to any of the weekly podcasts, this is one you really should catch - a lot of work went into linking us together - Don from the west coast of Canada, and me from Ontario. And it sounds like we are both sitting in the same studio!
If you would like to hear just the features from the show, go to www.donspodradio.mypodcast.com - you will hear SOUND BYTES, RETROSPECTIVE, ROCK AND ROLL NEWS, AND ROLLIE THE GOALIE.
I think we have all the bases covered for this week. Have a good listen...
Until next week.

Wow, the list of Retrospective Replays on this site is getting longer each week. It is great to know you are clicking on this site and enjoying these 20/20 looks back in time.
This week the humble potato gets a hard long look. Baked, fried, French-fried, scalloped - however you like 'em, potatoes have been a staple food for many years....but where did they come from, and how did they become so popular.
And, for a special treat, following the Retrospective commentary, a Potato Hit from Canada's own Stompin' Tom Connors.
I know you will enjoy this commentary - it's the latest, it's the greatest, mashed potatoes, yeh, yeh, yeh.
Don't forget to tune in to the weekly podcast from www.donspodradio.com where you will hear this commentary on the 20's - or tune in to the new MINICAST website, where you will hear only the features from this week's podcast - www.donspodradio.mypodcast.com.
No matter how you listen, I am glad you chose to click on our podcasts.
Until next we meet...

I hope you enjoy this feature, and I welcome you to not only this site, but to the main site, where my podcast also resides.
Every week, Big Daddy Donald Roberts hosts a weekly podcast and this Retrospective commentary is there as well - on the 20's www.donspodradio.com

Did you get a chance to listen to me as I hosted last week's salute to the Bobbies of Rock and Roll - www.donspodradio.com. It was great to be guest host for this podcast, number 99 and counting - as Big Daddy Donald Roberts took some time off to get some renovations done and the DonsPodRadio/CKW studio moved into it's new location.
Renos are now complete and he is back in the on air chair this week - and I resume my support role with Retrospective, heard on the 20 there, and in it's entirety here.
This week through the magic of the internet and podcasting, I take a look at the life and times of Harry Houdini - that great magician and illusionist of the past! Join me, either here, or there, for this story of one of the world's greatest magicians.
Thanks for listening

This week, on the main site of CKW - www.donspodradio.com and www.donspodradio.podomatic.com, I have the pleasure of being your musical host, with the most, from the coast - well, that is where the podcast originates, but not where my studios are located, but that is another story.
This podcast is dedicated to all the Bobbies of Rock and Roll Music, and between Big Daddy and me, we do our best to pack as many Bobby songs into the hour long podcast as we can.
As a part of this podcast, I did a special RETROSPECTIVE on one of my favourite Bobbies - Mr. Bobby Darin. Listen on the 20's during the podcast, or here in it's entirety.
It was fun working with Don this week - I provide the open microphone here in my home studios in Ontario, and he spins the tunes in his studio in British Columbia. Trusting the marvel of the internet, we can link both studios together to produce this podcast, and I hope you take the time to listen.
Next week, Don moves into Triple Digits - yes, podcast 100 hits the internet - just a few more to that magic number 104, which will be two years of weekly podcasts from DonsPodRadio.
Thanks for listening, and Thanks for supporting us here and on the main sites.

Back in 2006, when Big Daddy Donald Roberts asked me to do weekly spots on his podcasts, I took on the challenge and began what has become an exciting part of the show! I get to pick any topic I want to talk about - do the research, and then record my comments. Don picks up the commentary and does all the final edits - taking out "dead air" and adding the stingers.
This commentary is one of the very first done for DonsPodRadio/CKW and was a part of the tribute to 1965 - on the Rock, Roll and Remember series of programs that took a 20 week tour through the years 1956 to 1975.
This week, Don's studio is in transition, and as a result, he has posted the RRR podcast 30 (originally aired February 11, 2006) for your listening enjoymnet this week.
This commentary was a part of that podcast.
Next week, I take over the "air chair" with a salute to all the Bobs, Bobbies, and Bobbys that recorded Rock and Roll tunes! I know you will enjoy this program.
Meanwhile, enjoy this Retrospective look back to the year 1965, and listen to the complete podcast at www.donspodradio.com or www.donspodradio.podomatic.com

This week, I need to be very careful about the description I give to my commentary, in order to keep you guessing - I don't want to give away the answer to those whose thinking caps are not properly adjusted.
Give this some thought! What do YOU think the MOST RECORDED SONG IN HISTORY might be. I can give you a hint! It was originally composed and recorded in the mid 60's by a very. very popular artist - who sang this song as a solo, but who was a part of a group at the time it was recorded.
Give up?? Well, click on the link and find out what the song was.
Retrospective is heard weekly on the podcast from www.donspodradio.com and www.donspodradio.podomatic.com on the 20's and here in it's entirety.
I am taking a week off next week as it is spring break! Don and the gang at the station will be enjoying the week's vacation and I will do some research for upcoming programs.
When we come back, I will be hosting podcast 99 from the station - a salute to BOB - yes we have dug up all the best Rock and Roll music recorded by anyone named Bob, Bobby, Bobbie, etc,. and will do our best to compact as many as we can into the hour!
So, until then, click on the link and hear the MOST RECORDED SONG IN HISTORY.

Harold J. Smith??? Who the heck is Harold J. Smith? Well, you are not going to find out who this very famous man is by reading this! The only way you will know for sure is to listen to this edition of RETROSPECTIVE REPLAY!
Once you find out, it will be a "knee slapper!"
I do my Retrospective commentaries on the weekly podcast from www.donspodradio.com and right here at www.donspodradio.podomatic.com - on the 20's and of course, here as well.
I hope you are enjoying these 20/20 looks back in history as much as I enjoy researching them and bringing them to you, my listeners!

Here is a commentary I recorded for the 52nd program from www.donspodradio.com and CKW - if you were a faithful listener back then you would remember we combined the 1st birthday of the station with a salute to Valentine's Day. On that day, I did a Valentine's Day Retrospective which Don is replaying again this year!
So, if you ever wondered about being someone's Valentine, you will want to listen to this commentary.
I am heard on the 20's on the weekly podcast from CKW and here - every week! Oh, and did I mention every once in a while I get to wrestle the mic away from Big Daddy and I get to do a whole show, every once in a while!
Program 104 (2 years) is coming up and I think I just might be a little more visible for that show.
Anyway, please enjoy this Retrospective Look Back.

In the early 1900's in Hamilton, Ontario, a body of a female was discovered - apparently this person had been murdered! The investigation of this murder became front page news for months, and while every resource was used to find the culprit, the mystery of who the woman was, and more importantly, who the murder was, remains to this day.
Join me as I explore this story - my RETROSPECTIVE look back, heard on the 20's on the weekly podcast from www.donspodradio.com, and here in its entirety.
Thanks for visiting the DonsPodRadio family of websites.

Here is my RETROSPECTIVE commentary for January 16, 2008 - heard on the "20's`on the weekly podcast from www.donspodradio.com and www.donspodradio.podomatic.com.
The story of Nellie McClung is one that deserves telling - Nellie was a driving force in the evolution of the women`s movement in Canada and across North America. Her willingness to cross stereotypical boundaries of male and female activities raised many an eyebrow, but she persisted in driving home her position that women should be on an equal footing with their male counterparts in all things.
Some of her antics were downright hilarious, all intended to drive home her point regarding the role of women in the society of the time, and moving forward. I know you will enjoy this presentation.
Today, January 16, there was a problem with the main site at www.donspodradio.com and Don is working to resolve it, so please be patient. The home page looks rather strange, and in fact an electronic glitch has caused long deleted files to reappear and take over the page. The carrier is aware of the problem and is working to rectify the situation.
Meanwhile, enjoy this Retrspective look back, and listen to the weekly podcast, either here on the Podomatic site, or over at the DonsPodRadio site - there is a player there that will play the most current podcast.
Enjoy!

Here is a RETROSPECTIVE look back at an amazing story of a woman who had it all - or maybe I should say, had them all - men that is! The story of Zoe Wilkins would be difficult to believe were it not true - one could hardly make up a story like this!
Listen as I tell the tale of this most intriguing woman from the past.
Retrospective is heard on the 20's on the weekly podcast from www.donspodradio.com and CKW and on podomatic at www.donspodradio.podomatic.com.
It is heard here in it's entirety.
I hope you all had a great Christmas, New Year and are looking forward to a wonderful 2008.

We are all taking a bit of a break over the Christmas and New Year season, so here is truly a RETROSPECTIVE REPLAY from last year - entitled TOOTHPASTE.
Ever wonder?? Well, here is the history of the stuff, from it's very beginnings to modern times.
Listen to RETROSPECTIVE on the weekly podcast from www.donspodradio.com and www.donspodradio.podomatic.com and of course, right here in it's entirety, every week.
Don and I will be back at it next week - until then, Happy New Year and please enjoy! You'll wonder where the yellow went!!!!

This is truly a RETROSPECTIVE REPLAY which originally aired November 21, 2006 - my thoughts regarding your congenial host, with the most, from the West Coast - Big Daddy Donald Roberts!
Don and I started as business associates and a friendship developed. Now in (semi) retirement, we both have time to devote to another love of ours - music and podcasting. Each week, I provide Don my Retrospective looks back and on numerous occasions, sit in the "air chair" spinning the tunes and generally having a whole lot of fun! And, the best thing about this whole enterprise is that by way of the internet, what was once a hobby that was shared by way of audio tape, can now be shared to a wide audience on line.
So, with Big Daddy at the controls, and me behind the mic right here in my Fergus, Ontario studio, here is yet another Retrospective Look back.
Happy New Year Everyone!
Al (aka the Little Irishman)
December 19, 2007 01:35 PM PST
With a scant 6 days to go until Christmas Day, I thought I would take time out to talk about our penchant for things Politically Correct - and in this case, a Politically Correct Christmas. Originally aired last year at this time, Don and I decided to dig this one out for another air play on the main site, which is featuring our Christmas Podcast! Go to www.donspodradio.com for some talk and tunes - all with a decided Christmas theme.
Over the past few years, the greeting "Merry Christmas" has been replaced with the sanitized "Happy Holidays!" Why is this? What happened to our Christmas? Listen for a glimpse of the past, present and perhaps the future!
And, I would like to take this opportunity to wish all my listeners and site visitors a very MERRY CHRISTMAS and as you end the old year and swing into a brand new one, may your God richly bless you!
Cheers

Here is one of a number of Christmas recollections featured on the weekly podcast from www.donspodradio.com this week. Being just two short weeks until Christmas, the format of the weekly podcast changed somewhat, and Don and I co-hosted the program, sharing thoughts and stories about Christmases past and present (no pun intended)
This is one such story! I invite you to click on over to the main site for a full hour of Christmas thoughts, stories, and music!

Next week on the podcast from the main site, Big Daddy Donald Roberts and I will be digging out all the Christmas platters and patter and for the two weeks leading up to the big day, we will share our music and thoughts with you. I hope you tune in, and enjoy our contribution to Christmas.
Also, as he did last year, Don will be posting a full two hours of nothing but Christmas music here on Podomatic - www.donspodradio.podomatic.com - it will be there next week.
